Success Story Of Siddamma

Siddamma was suffering from polio at the age of 3. Both her Father & Mother are working as Agriculture daily wages labor, she is with 6 siblings one elder sister married, 4 younger sisters and 1Younger brother are studying. As she is with disability nobody looked after her including her parents, so she was taken care and protected by her Grandmother till 7th STD after 7th Siddamma was sent to hostel for further studies from 8th to SSLC , while studying SSLC her Grandmother, who was the only person to her, is no more. She got worried where to go and this led her to depression, then her father came and took her home, where she had tough time physically, mentally and financially as well. Her father made debts for her PUC .
Then her parents with her four sisters migrated to Bangalore for job (Okkaluthana ) leaving two of her siblings to her, for her this became a big challenge, she has to look after younger sister and brother and attend college. Siddamma as a child was very talented and optimist as well and know her responsibilities as second elder in the family. While studying in college she looked after her siblings and worked as a daily agricultural wage labor and completed PUC, also she paid back her father’s loan. She became courageous and decided to continue her education on loan, joined for BA and completed. And she deemed to be stubborn to fight with financial constrain . She planned with her sisters to took others land for agriculture on contract basis and succeeded to earn Rs. 80,000/- for the first year, but before starting for the second time her health got disturbed. She had heart problem so she stopped and started taking rest. After few months she was in search for some new job where she could sit and work.
She came to Alamba’s first workshop at Koppal, wondering how she could get Job who is with one crutch and later at Sensitizing program she regained hope, she came to attend a training at ALAMBA Campus after 10 days, she was very active in the training and also we boosted her confidence then finally Jubilant Groups Total Mall gave her an opportunity as cashier with pay gross of Rs.8,500/- and take home Rs.7,500/- with all the benefits like EPF and ESI. 2 years ago this company was taken by More Megamart, Sarjapura road. She saved and spent nearly Rs.1,25,000 for younger sister’s marriage and continuing to support her family. She received best cashier awards and appreciation at store level. But still she believes one day she would reach supervisor designation. Presently she is earning Rs.9500/- and she is confident enough to face the challenges of life. On her earnings, she had an orthopedical surgery, walks with caliper instead of crutches.
Her present transformation of happiness is “Alamba” she says.
